What is SIFT This?

SIFT This is a media literacy education platform that helps students analyze viral content using the SIFT method: Stop, Investigate, Find trusted sources, and Trace claims to their original context.

How It Works

Students submit links to viral media (TikTok, YouTube, social media posts) they encounter online
AI analyzes the content using the SIFT framework to help identify potential misinformation
Teachers review and approve submissions before they appear in the public gallery
Everyone learns from real-world examples of media literacy in action

The SIFT Method

STOP - Don't share or believe content immediately. Take a moment to verify.
INVESTIGATE the source - Who created this? What's their track record?
FIND trusted coverage - What do reliable sources say?
TRACE claims to the original context - Where did this really come from?

For Teachers

Sign up for a teacher account to get a class code. Share this code with your students so they can submit media for analysis. You'll be able to review submissions and build a curated gallery of examples to discuss in class.

About the Creator

SIFT This was created by Wes Fryer, a middle school STEM and media literacy teacher at Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC. Wes teaches 13 IDEAS summer camps focused on coding, Minecraft, and media literacy education.
